Tacitus’ “Germania”

Just finished another Kindle book – Tacitus’ short treatise on the manners of the German barbarians written about 90 AD.  It’s pretty interesting, and short, covering the way they lived and their manners, along with a listing of the tribes and where they were settled.

Tacitus seems to approve of the tribes’ insistence on honesty and chastity, drawing the obvious comparison to the civilized world’s lack of the same. He’s not as approving of their drunkenness.

The Kindle book I read it in was a free download from the site. I had read Tacitus’ Annals and Histories before, but not Germania and Agricola, so finding a volume with those in it was a bonus.
